Tipping Megathread

Hello, everyone! Threads about tipping are getting a little out of hand and stifling other discussion in the subreddit, so the mod team has decided to limit posting about tipping to this megathread until further notice.

Please remember that service staff being underpaid is due to bosses refusing to pay a living wage, and that service staff are not at fault for participating in a tip-based economy. Comments that place unfair blame on service staff will be actioned accordingly.

Apparently we also didn’t need to wait the housing market to crash- all we needed to do is ‘work for it!’

French refuse collectors have now been on strike for 18 days after their government raised the pension age from 62 to 64. Whether you agree ot not, they are not going to let their government walk over them.

Put in my 2 week notice yesterday. Got fired on the spot.

Most companies don’t give a rats ass about you. I should have quit in 2 weeks instead of being a “good employee” and giving them notice. At least my new job pays double what I made before 🤷‍♂️

Just had the stupidest job interview ever

So I just had the worst job interview ever and it reminded me of this sub. I was trying to get a job as a Medical Assistant for my gap year before I go back to school. MA programs are usually $2000-1500 and last a couple of weeks, but a lot of places just train their own (which is what I wanted since I can’t afford to pay 2k just to be able to work). So I had just job interview. They were paying $13 (I’m in michigan btw) for the duration of the training while I work full time with the potential of a raise after they are done training me. While the pay wasn’t the best I was still okay with the idea. Then the interviewer dropped the bomb: if I missed 1 day of work during or after training, I had to pay them 40 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Also, I had to work for them full time for three years and if I failed to do that I had to pay them 40k as well. Keep in mind this job does not offer ANY time off (even not paid), no holidays off, no holiday pay either. Is this even legal? They argued that the value was determined bc of the “training” they provided. Obv I ended the interview in less than 5 minutes and left. It was so ridiculous I’m still in shock. Is this normal at all?

My company "exceeded quarterly growth targets" and so are now laying off 19,000 people. What kind of fucking scam is this?
