The fact that he's able to made it sound like actual air passing through a reed is mind blowing. In reality, that dude must have some real messed up sinuses.

15
u/MoldyDiarrhoea Feb 08 '23
Wouldn't be surprised if it was cut with powdered bananas over in Aus. Hell 20% pure is considered good shit here.
6
u/supervisord Feb 08 '23
Better than being cut with fentanyl. Which is why I won’t ski
14
u/EseStringbean Feb 08 '23
Nobody cuts coke with fentanyl. You're buying into the bs propaganda. Think about it. Fentanyl is about 2-3x the price of coke by weight. Why the fuck would any dealer cut a cheaper drug with a more expensive one? Unless that dealers goal is to lose money from selling drugs.

As a saxophonist of over a decade, I was blown away by how accurate he was, lol.
You’re probably right that something is vibrating in his oral area like a reed, because his mouth is doing roughly the same thing that an actual saxophonist’s would do while playing, except it’s open rather than closed.

Yet another round of grown adults bitching about not seeing actual magic.
664
u/FishPeanutButter Feb 08 '23
It's my favorite part of this sub tbh.
313
u/NewlyRecruitedidiot Feb 08 '23
I just like to ask these folks why they expect to see real magic and why some posts just aren’t good enough for them. The mental gymnastics these geniuses pull is entertaining lol
194
u/sunflowerastronaut Feb 08 '23
I love it when they say Well it's not like it's unexplainable or some variation of that sentence.
Literally everything has an explanation! They want to see something on this sub that defies cause and effect
63
u/NewlyRecruitedidiot Feb 08 '23
Lol exactly, it blows my mind that that is an acceptable and totally reasonable answer to them
29
u/Workwork007 Feb 08 '23
They're like the boomers of Reddit, just waving their canes and going "in my days, i didn't understand shit, that was the magic!"

Those people are dumb tho, I agree this is interesting but doesn't fit the nature of the sub. I wanna see shit that is weird as fuck, you know, r/blackmagicfuckery from the sub titled that.
Of course it can be explained, but stuff the layman will see and be like "huh?"
→ More replies (1)24
u/UrToesRDelicious Feb 08 '23
It's not for lack of seeing "real magic" but the fact that this sub is becoming indistinguishable from /r/interestingasfuck /r/gifs /r/funny or a half dozen other front page subs that this could fall under.
11
u/FuckingKilljoy Feb 08 '23
In fairness, what do you think the difference is between /r/interestingasfuck and this sub is anyway? They're both subs for really cool and crazy shit

Were you guys expecting real magic or...? I have some bad news.

u/black-knights-tango Feb 08 '23
Yeah I'd rather see this than yet another variation of Cups and Balls or some cheesy sleight of hand card trick.
2
u/RipperoniPepperoniHo Feb 08 '23
Isn’t the whole point of this sub to post things that you genuinely find unexplainable? This isn’t unexplainable and it could fit in a thousand other more appropriate subs
4
u/flewidity Feb 08 '23
Show one example of something on this sub that’s unexplainable
6
u/YukiSnowmew Feb 08 '23
Obviously anything on this sub can be explained. The point is, the explanation should not be immediately obvious. A post should feel like something almost magical is happening because the explanation is unintuitive, non-obvious, and hard to wrap your head around.
→ More replies (2)2
4
u/RipperoniPepperoniHo Feb 08 '23
I think by unexplainable I mean more like you’re not sure what’s going on and some more blackmagicfuckery-inclined people on this sub are able to explain what’s happening. Basically something that’s not completely obvious what’s going on
3
u/flawlessmojo7 Feb 08 '23
Actual magic is a stretch. How about something that resembles what the sub named after ?

If you like this, check out Tom Thum, who is quite possibly the best beat boxer on the planet. The shit this guy can do with his mouth alone is absurd. He has a repertoire of hundreds of instruments (no, really), both analogue and digital, old and new, from reed and woodwind to strings and drums and everything in between, and he can even mimic old school turntable scratching insanely well.
Anyway here's a brief example of him performing a quick jazz number featuring sax and trumpet, via a loop pedal.
Edit: I could honestly watch videos of him performing all day, he's just so fucking astounding. Here are some longer showcase performances from various events over the years if you're interested, I really can't recommend them highly enough.
Australian Beatboxing Championship 2019
Beatbox Brilliance — TEDxSydney 2013
Sound and Silence: A Beatboxer's Love Affair With Silence — TEDxGateway 2020
Beatbox Battle TV Showcase 2015
And if you'd rather hear individual tracks, here are some of his best:
Aloe Black — I Need A Dollar (Tom Thum Cover)
Portishead — Glory Box ft. Claire Walters (Tom Thum Cover)
Tom Thum — Ratchet Face ft. Queensland Symphony Orchestra
Tom Thum — Diving for Pearls (A Binaural Beatbox Recording)
And if none of that is enough to blow your dick off then I don't know what to tell you. Enjoy!

u/PrairiePepper Feb 08 '23

u/rubbery_anus Feb 08 '23
My pleasure, I'm a huge fan of his work so it's great to see other people enjoying it too!
11
u/tinaroma Feb 08 '23
Thank you for this recc! Just went down a rabbit hole and his most incredible videos are the ones where he is paired with an orchestra imo. His musicality and auditory storytelling is incredible
6
u/rubbery_anus Feb 08 '23
I'm so glad you like it, he's truly incredible isn't he? Not just an immensely talented beatboxer, not just an accomplished musician, but a genuinely good guy who's funny and engaging and works his arse off to hone his craft and bring joy to his fans.
His Instagram is great too, he's always posting little snippets of stuff he's working on, or cool mini-tunes he's just come up with, and sometimes excerpts from his various tutorial series which are always super interesting.

I'd recommend watching some of the newer beatboxers as beatboxing has developed incredibly the past couple of years.
I usually show new people this one of the beatboxer River:
I feel like this video shows alot of musicality while not being too overpowering for new listeners of beatbox.

Snag a username, something like, /u/IPostSources, have a signature like those bots do, something like,
This comment was made by a human || I am very hungry, this is the only way I make money || You can support my source posting endeavors at patreon.com/IPostSourcesOnReddit || Merch available at IPostSourcesOnReddit.shop
And then spend literally all of your workday trying to post sources on Reddit enough that people will actually pay you, turning one of your relaxing past times into one of the biggest stressors in your day.
And then get out marketed anyway by someone like, /u/IPostPornSources.
Edit: Oh holy shit, that first one was real. And has only one (surviving) comment, and it's on a Wincest sub.
